Impact Framework and Due Diligence

For-Purpose Businesses

They are a wonder to behold, and in our opinion, they are absolutely key to solving some of the world's most pressing social and environmental problems.

The term ‘for-purpose’ covers a wide range of business structures and types, from not-for-profit, co-operatives, charity, social enterprise and profit-with-purpose.

For-purpose businesses exist in a wonderful, varied spectrum with profit first on one end, and purpose-first on the other. And here at Think Enough we like to include and celebrate them all, because they are all making a difference.

But…

We also know that transparency is essential, and we need to be aware of ‘purpose-washing’ and ‘green-washing’ (businesses falsely claiming to have a social or environmental purpose as a marketing tactic).

So how do we do it?

We’re not a certifying body, but we do our due diligence

The impact information we show on Think Enough is provided by each business, and we rely for the most part on their honesty.

Our team is knowledgeable and experienced in picking up on businesses that aren’t doing what they say they are. If something doesn’t look right, we ask the businesses to walk us through it.

Not only does this help us with our learning and quality control process development - it also has the very valuable benefit of creating a supportive learning opportunity for businesses who don’t yet have all the answers to our questions.

We welcome feedback

As a small business venturing into new territory we’re developing our processes with the help of wonderful mentors, networks and countless hours of interviews with for-purpose businesses and contacts.

If you see something on a business listing page that you’re concerned about we encourage you to flag it using the ‘report an error’ function and we’ll look into it.

It’s your choice

Ultimately we want to create a valuable tool full of great businesses for you to choose from.

Use your own discretion about what type of businesses you want to support, and take advantage of the filters if you only want to support businesses with a certain type of structure or certification.

We encourage you to be open minded and explore the beautiful community of businesses we’ve found for you - we’re a tough bunch of critics and we think they’re all pretty darn great!
